Central Library

Eligibility

Faculty, students of Kitasato university, alumni, Former Faculty/Staff Members, emeritus professors, medical researchers, medical
professionals, persons approved by committee to use the Central Library.

Admission

You are required to have your student ID card or employee ID card (IC card) to enter the library.
If you do not have one, please contact the reception desk next to the entrance gate.

Borrow and Return

【Borrow】

A student ID card or an employee ID card is required to borrow materials.
You can use self-checkout machines with your ID card.

【Return】

Please return materials to the circulation desk or to the book drop located at the library entrance.
The book drop is available at all times;however, audio visual materials and overdue items must be returned to the circulation desk.

 

【Overdue】

If you can't return materials on time, you won't be able to borrow new materials according to the number of items and days the items were overdue.

【Reserve】

You can place a hold on an item which has been checked out.

【Lost / Damaged items】

If you lose or damage an item, please contact the circulation desk.

 

Copy Services

You may copy library materials within the limits permitted by copyright law. When you copy them by yourself, the University Libraries Prepaid Card is required. Please purchase it at the circulation desk in the library or at the vending machine. After 17:00 on weekdays, they can be acquired only at the vending machine which only sells 100 times copy cards. Be sure that you can't make change at the circulation desk or the vending machine.

Interlibrary Loan

Copy Services You can request copied materials from other universities. Applicants have to pay for expenses such as copy fees, postage and processing fees. 
Borrow You can borrow books from other university libraries. Applicants have to pay for postage.

Visiting other university libraries

If you can't find the materials you need in Kitasato University libraries, other university libraries can be visited.
A letter of introduction is issued to use them. It might take some time for a letter to be issued because we have to contact a library you're going to visit in advance.

Studying in the Library

1st Floor (Active Area): Conversation is allowed.
2nd Floor (Silent Area): Please study quietly.

 

Areas Requiring Reservation

The following areas require reservations:
1F Seminar Room: Reserve at the circulation desk (for seminars, etc.)
1F Group Study Area: Reserve through the reservation system Suwary.
2F Research Room: Reserve through the reservation system Suwary.
※Reservations are not available when the library is closed.
 Even if a reservation appears available on the seat management system, it cannot be used.

 

Using Personal Computers

You may use your personal laptop anywhere in the library.
Internet access requires a Kids ID and password.
※ No lending PCs are available.

 

Food and Drink

Drinks in sealed containers are allowed in the library.
Light meals may be eaten in the Refreshment Area located before the entrance gate.
Please tidy up after yourself.

You can search databases such as MEDLINE, CAS SciFinder, and CINAHL online.

You can see journals and books on computers.

Please come to the library circulation desk with your identification (such as a student ID card) . We will do a simple entrance procedure.

Read and copy in the library.

Please purchase the University Libraries Prepaid Card. If you don't have a Prepaid
card, the staff will make copies of the materials for you. It costs 30 yen for a monochrome copy and 100 yen for a color copy.

Search for  materials You can search the library collection using the PCs exclusive to OPAC in the library. When the PC area is crowded, current students and faculty take priority over alumni.
Read E-journals Only foreign E-jornals may be read in the library. Please apply for copy at the circulation desk. (20 yen per one sheet)
Search databases You can access several databases. Please contact the circulation desk for information about available databases.

For visitors

Eligibility

Researchers and university students who would like to use materials in the Central library for reserch or study must have both a letter of introduction from their home institution and a personal identification. Medical professionals need to bring a certification which will show home institution and occupational categories. A person who is introduced by Sagamihara City Library also can use the Central library.
*In general, this library is not open to the public. Contact us for more details.
*Be sure to contact  before visiting us, otherwise you may not use the Central library.
*There is no parking. Please visit the library by public transportation.
